Vivacious Vitality Tonic
March 2011
Blessed Spring time, beautiful people!
No matter what the season, we can use daily tonics to keep our energy high and help us adapt to the stresses of modern day life. I have used this tonic regularly for the past year and a half to keep me strong, and can testify- it works! Love yourself by nourishing your blood and nerves with the green world~
Ingredients:
2 quarts of non-chlorinated water
1 pint of maple syrup, grade B or C
4 ounces of herb mixture: Ashwagandha, reishi, nettles, oatstraw, holy basil (tulsi)
brandy to preserve
Recipe for Vivacious Vitality Tonic:
1) Weigh out 4 oz. of the herbal mixture. I like to use mostly ashwagandha and reishi and the little bits of oatstraw, tulsi and nettles. Feel the ratio of herbs/mushroom out for yourself. Set aside.
2) Bring 2 quarts pure water to a boil in a large non-aluminum pot, then add the herb mixture and turn down to a simmer. Cover with lid. Use a large enough pot that it will not simmer over.
3) Simmer until the liquid looks like it has been reduced by half, usually about a hour and a half. Turn it off and let cool.
4) Strain the herbs and compost. Make sure to squeeze out all of the decoction from the herbs before composting. Give thanks and sing a song of love.
5) Return the herbal decoction to the pot and add the maple syrup. Put on low heat and get it just warm enough that all the liquids meld.
6) Pour into your labeled bottles and take one ounce in the morning and if you would like, take an ounce in the evening as well. Keep refrigerated. Use it up, that is what it is for. This only works if you take it daily. If you do not have a refrigerator/cool place, add enough brandy to preserve.
To your vitality!
