Thoughts on 2012
September 2008
What is this chaos we are witnessing and partaking in, as we quickly move through the first decade of the twenty-first century? Why, when there are billions of people on the planet, do so many feel alone and isolated?
Times are so full, so fast, so busy. We are caught up in our own entropy. The chaos has chipped away at time for community building. We try to keep in touch, to find the time that the days of old brought us when we could sit on the porch and watch the world go by. What effort it is to find time to step out of our daily demands, to relax and enjoy, and just reach out to our own neighbors, let alone our loved ones who live far away. It is almost like every one, or every family, is for themselves now. We do good to just maintain our own home. This is a struggle for many, as we feel guilt and sadness, knowing that Father Time has captured us in a seemingly endless cycle of emptiness. We are occupied constantly, but not much engaged.
How much comfort I received when I realized that the times were moving through me, through us, and that all things come to pass, even this crazy time in human history. I, nor any of us, control the age we are living in, but to be aware of it helps us chart our way through it, and gives hope.
Through an inner longing to feel more connection in life, and a series of questions around this longing that I have posed for years to Creator and anyone else around me who was receptive, I have been given answers that have transformed the way I see myself, the times and the world. In this transformation I found my power, the power that is in all of us, and I have slowly but surely begun to take it back. The process is slow, because I must learn how to use my power for the greater good, not for selfish ends. It is only when we embrace our own empowerment without the sense of separation or individualization, that we can empower the whole, thus making worldly change for the better. Power manifests itself in two ways, fear and love. Which world do you want to live in? Start by cultivating that world within yourself.
Humanity lives its story out in cycles. Ancient texts and teachers tell us that there are four of these cycles. Different traditions call them different names, not suprisingly, since all cultures have their own unique way of interpreting the world around them. But all truths intersect, and with the stories of humankind’s development, there is no exception.
In our time now, we are astronomically aligned in the zodiac sign of Pisces. Every 72 years the sun moves one degree backwards within the fixed starry sky of the constellations, called the precession of the equinoxes. In 2375, the sun, moon and the planets will have all moved into the sign of Aquarius. This is why we hear the prophesies of the coming age of Aquarius. We are so very close.
When the Biblical story of Jesus was given to the world, humanity had just entered into the Piscean age. That is why Jesus is so often associated with the sign of the fish, and has many analogies to fish in his teachings. This was and is the third age within the fourth cycle of the full movement through the constellations- our galaxy’s 26,000 year journey through the cosmos.
It takes approximately 2150 years for earth to journey through a zodiac sign, since there are 30 degrees within each sign and the sun and planets travel only 1 degree
backward every 72 years. Just like our seasons, every three zodiac signs of travel bring us into a new place. For instance, in winter we experience Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, and then the
movement into Aires heralds spring(that is, for the northern climes of the planet and vice versa for the southern hemisphere).
It is no different on the larger scale of things, and approximately every 6500 years we move through another cycle.
It takes about 26,000 years for the earth to experience all of the ages within the four cycles and that is what the Mayans knew all along, and why they call 2012 the end of time. For on December 21, 2012, when the sun has reached its zenith in the southern sky, it will begin, once again, a whole new era in time, a whole new 26,000 year cycle.
These ages have been referred to as the Golden Age, the Silver Age, the Bronze Age,and the Iron Age. We are living in the Iron Age in case you have not figured this out by now. That is why it is so heavy and dense, from our schedules to population to mentalities to emotion. But nothing is forever, except change. Change is the only constant. WE MUST REMEMBER THIS NOW AND NOT DESPAIR IN THESE DESPARATE TIMES. WE MUST!!! We are nearing the end of the Iron Age, when all of the hardest parts of it are flying in our faces, left and right, day and night, entropy at work, chaos unleashed. It is up to us to save ourselves if we want to emerge from this time and space with any sort of grace. No one else will do it, can do it, for you.
Except the Holy Spirit, which is you, which you may call Jah or Jehovah or God or Shakti or Allah or Ama or Rama or whatever, it does not matter, it is all the same, the Source of Divine that can and will penetrate the darkest of existence with awareness, warmth and love.
But because the times are so dense, and disintegrated, it is not just enough to merely know about the Holy Spirit, to know about the Breath Maker, but to engage with that Divinity, daily. You have to bring that Force alive in you if you want peace on earth, and health and justice and joy. Quit looking without for it. Quit. This world will do everything it can to distract you, entertain you and keep you from hearing the stillness within. Your outward search will trick you. You’ll think you have found peace and happiness, only to realize it was fleeting.
Your connection is within, in order for you to enduringly know it without.
But once you find that connection you do not just stay there. This is the problem with human nature. Like the one on the tightrope, or the boat on the sea, we must keep in check moment to moment to
in order to move forward. Humans often have a hard time being disciplined, and since distraction, especially in this media-dosed and materially excessive world, is so easy to come by, the discipline
of daily renewal with our inner guidance, God, is put on the backburner again and again.
We cannot afford to do this anymore, cannot we see the peril in which we have created for ourselves? Either find this daily discipline for yourself, or perish; this is
basically the parameters we have set for ourselves at this stage in the game.
A routine and rhythm is different for each person, but many things like prayer and meditation and movement with focus and singing have been used to align one’s self with the
Spirit that moves in all things, for eons.
As we approach the year 2012, be excited for the possibilities. Rejoice in the evolution and development of humankind and live your day now embracing the Golden Age that is
soon to come. If not for yourself, do it for your children and grandchildren.
“Even After
All this time
The sun never says to the earth,
“You owe Me.”
Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the
Whole
Sky.”
