Weekly Yoga Classes

      VINYASA YOGA SLOW FLOW

    Thursdays 6-7:15pm

          Weaverville Yoga Studio

The literal translation of Vinyasa is “to place in a special way." Sun Salutations are the heart of this class, incorporating the breath in a conscious and considerate way to help you gain felxibility, compassion and strength both on and off the yoga mat. We begin class by slowing down the mind's chatter with pranayama practice, and then warm up the spine. Balancing poses, forward and backward bends, hip openers, core work and twists are incorportated in a vinyasa style sequence, ending with a final relaxation. The yamas and niyamas, the first and second limbs of Yoga, are often integrated into the sequence. This is a Level 1 and 2 class.

      YOGA BASICS

    Thursdays 7:30-8:30PM

  Weaverville Yoga Studio

In one hour of Yoga Basics, we experience the postures slowly and respectfully, based on the body's current abilities. Bodily awareness, stretching and simple guided meditation fill the time together, leaving you feeling nourished and relaxed. In this class, yoga means simply taking the time to slow down and calm the mind with breath awareness and conscious movement. With these actions, we increase the vitality in our daily lives. All levels and ages welcome. "If we do not take care of our bodies, the where will we live?"~ Anonymous

  Weaverville Yoga Studio

Pre-registration Required. Series cost is $66

If you have been thinking about beginning a Yoga practice, or already have one and would like to take it to another level, please join Mary Morgaine Thames for a 6-week class series on Thursday evenings that will honor the eight limbs of Classical Yoga as laid out thousands of years ago in the Yoga Sutra. Physical exercises (asanas) and breath awareness (pranayama) are the most popular components of Yoga in the West, and they will be the core of these Beginning Yoga classes, but the importance and exploration of the other six limbs of Yoga will also be incorporated.

Each class will have a time for calming the mind and warming the spine before moving into the week’s particular poses or study, ending with a deep relaxation. You will receive a basic understanding of Yoga from a spiritual perspective as well as the physical, and a taste for how it can enrich your life. At the end of the series chai will be served and you will receive a take home sequence handout of all the poses we have completed on our journey together. Beginning Yoga class series is designed to give you the confidence and inspiration you need for a regular home practice and to continue on the path of compassionate fellowship within the yoga community.

Week 1: Brief ourstory of Yoga; Intro to the 8 limbs of classical Yoga; Forward bends/hip openers

Week 2: Study of yamas; Standing poses

Week 3: More yamas; Begin niyama study; Balancing poses
