Righteous Resilience Immune Booster

May 2010

One day in September of 2009 while playing in my herb garden, a car pulled up along side the little road next to it. I live at the end of a dirt road in the mountains of Madison County, N.C., and it is a rare car that would show up there. The driver said, "You are not going to believe this, but my friend lived here when she was a little girl." She gestured to the elderly lady sitting next to her and I walked over to the car and began engaging with them in interesting conversation.

Jean, the 88-year-old woman, told me stories of what is what like when she grew up here many decades ago. She said her mother was a widow and she raised her kids while working on the dairy that used to be on this land.

Jean had a brightness about her, an exceptionally lovely lady she was, and when she and I walked around my gardens, she moved with such ease and grace. I remember her lovely hands and the turquoise jewelry on them. We talked about plants and she named and commented on every one she saw. She said she believed plants were God's gift to keep us healthy. Jean showed up a few weeks after Frank had died, and the whole experience of meeting her was so quick and surreal, it seemed like she was an angel sent with a message.

Jean said when she was a young child a major flu epidemic came through and killed many people in the area. She told me about a general recipe they made for an immune booster and that the people who took it did not fall prey to the epidemic. Both the ladies swore by this recipe for keeping one strong and resilient. I was so inspired that I made it myself, and have been ever since. And here it is for you if you would like to do the same.

RECIPE for RIGHTEOUS RESILIENCE IMMUNE BOOSTER:

Jean said to make this on the new moon and harvest it on the full.

INGREDIENTS:

1lb.Garlic cloves (no need to peel)

1lb. Onions(peeled)

1lb. Jalapenos

1lb. Ginger

1lb. Horseradish

enough Organic Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) to cover

EQUIPMENT:

-1 gallon glass jar and 1 half-gallon glass jar with lids

-Parchment paper

-Food processor(not essential but lessens the hand chopping/grating)

-Big bowl

-Wooden spoon

-Ladle

-Strainer

-Cheesecloth

-Jars and label for bottling

The more focused you can be with making the medicine, the more potent it will be. I like to sing and pray while making it. Grow as many of the ingredients as you can(or wild craft the horseradish) or get them from as local, organic sources as possible. You can also over time play with making your own ACV.

Puree the garlic cloves, onions and jalapenos in the food processor, bit by bit.

Empty these into a bowl(wooden is best) as needed.

Next, put in the grater piece of the food processor and grate the unpeeled ginger and horseradish and add to bowl.

Stir all of these ingredients together with a wooden spoon (warning- your eyes will certainly be teary, and your whole house will smell of the ingredients for hours).

Use ladle to place the mixture to the gallon and half-gallon jars.

Now cover with ACV.

Place parchment(or wax) paper over top and then screw on the lid. This keeps it from rusting shut.

Shake well.

Label with name, ingredients, date, moon sign and any other information you want to remember. Always label!

Store in a cool, dark place. Top off with vinegar for next few days as the mixture will shrink in volume.

Shake periodically, with intentions of what the medicine is for.

On the full moon, two weeks later, decant the concoction. Pour it through a strainer with a cheesecloth and squeeze out any goodness left in the material before composting it. Pour into glass bottles and label. Store in a cool, dark place. No need to refrigerate. It will last for several months but of course, you will want to use it up before then!

DOSING: Take one tablespoon a day when needing extra immune support, like when you feel a cold coming on, or are going to a hospital or nursing home to visit someone, or are about to fly in an airplane or travel to a new place, etc... This is not a tonic. The difference being, you only take when needed, not every day for extended periods. Do not take on an empty stomach for it can bring on nausea. It is good mixed with salad dressing or on foods for an occasional boost.
