Calling in the Directions
May 2009
Each morning to close my meditation practice and open up the day ahead, I invoke the seven directions. I spent years just facing each direction and listening to what guidance (direction) came from where. Traveling to the southern continents helped me realize that north and south hold different powers depending upon where you stand on the planet, and that east and west remain the same, one becoming the other if you travel with it far enough. I share with you below the voices of the directions, as they have moved through me, and honor all the traditions that have influenced my own inner guidance.
Never doubt the power of invoking the directions to bring about intentional, powerful living. Just try it everyday for a month and you'll see.
EAST
We call upon the East
And Thank You for your Direction.
Power of Constancy
Home of the Rising Sun
Place of New Beginnings
Breath of Fresh Air
Symbol of Birth
May we rise in flight and soar with the Eagle
And all of your winged ones.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
SOUTH
We call upon the South
And Thank You for your Direction.
And in this Northern Hemisphere, you hold the space
Of Fire and Warmth
Place of Passion and Vitality
Symbol of Infinite Growth and Youth
May we be playful and strong like the Lion
And all of your animals of prey.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
WEST
We call upon the West
And Thank You for your Direction.
Power of Consistency
Home of the Setting Sun
Place of Reflection
As seen in your oceans, lakes, rivers and all your waters
Symbol of the Dreamtime
May we lift our voices in Gratitude
And flow with the grace of the Dolphin
And all your swimming ones.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
NORTH
We call upon the North
And Thank You for your Direction.
And in this Northern Hemisphere, you hold the space
Of cold mountains and minerals,
Place of Stillness and the Dying Back
Symbol of Transformation
May we be cleansed and healed
While remaining grounded like the Buffalo
And all of your plant-eating creatures.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
EARTH
We call upon the Earth
And Thank you for your Direction.
Gaia, Pachamama, Earth Mother,
Body of all life as we know it.
Divine Feminine who
Births, Nourishes, Supports and Sustains
This worldly existence.
Sweet mother who takes our heavy energy
And transforms it into rich, fertile soil.
You take away the illusion of separateness
For we are all your children.
May we honor you with our thoughts, words and deeds
As the Great Mother you are.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
SKY
We call upon the sky
And Thank you for your Direction.
Ra, Sun-giver, Heavenly Father
Illuminator of all life as we know it.
Divine Masculine who
Protects, Inspires and Provides for
This worldly existence.
May we be held by and uplifted into
The Heavenly Light that you are.
Come and Be with us
We pray.
DIVINE OMNIPRESENCE
We call upon Divine Omnipresence within and without
And thank you for your Direction
The union of Earth and Sky
Great Mystery that Flows in all things
Pure consciousness that is
Beyond all form and thought.
The Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine
Become One in your Presence
May we tune in to your Infinite field
Of possibility in Love and Light.
